Sunrise was nice, as was climbing back into bed afterwards…

Once I got up for real I finalized plans for the day, which unfortunately did not include ,y first choice for slot canyon hike. Peek-a-boo and Spooky slot canyons require a 26 mile drive on a dirt road where multiple people noted seeing more than a one muffler along the way. The RV has enough problems, and that seemed excessive. Instead I headed to Cottonwood Wash for what I planned on was a 6.5 or so mile hike with the far end of the out and back being the true slot canyon. The hike through the wash and the canyon were both annoying and cool – lots of loose sand but some spectacular views as usual.

There were some challenging scrambles and walls to overcome even before really getting to the narrows and beginning of the slot. I was excited about getting through some of the challenges, but was ultimately disappointed at having to turn around at a section that was about 15’ straight up and I couldn’t see how to get myself up there. Oh well. Still a great experience and a solid 5 mile hike before lunchtime. I even had a couple of companions along the way.

Here are a few videos of the hike, though unfortunately I had some technical difficulties on some that would have been pretty cool. Oh well.
