I started the morning by getting back into bed after turning on the truck engine and heat. The RV is still in the low to mid-40s when I wake up, and I need to start the truck engine to recharge the RV battery enough to get the heat to start. I did the usual breakfast of eggs, oatmeal and hot chocolate, though needing to boil water for the oatmeal and hot chocolate since I have given up on the generator except for extreme circumstances. I tried yesterday for about 45 minutes, with very little to show for it.
I didn’t really have plans for the day, but decided to drive the Sheep Creek Geological Loop to get some new perspectives on the different geological layers without having to get out of the truck. It was pretty neat, with the road winding back and forth down to the bottom of a canyon with its own little world it seemed. 10s of millions of years of geologic history towered above me, and several times I just stopped to start at the walls rising above me. Humbling.

On the way back I thought about trying a hike to an old fire tower, but it was still in the high 40s with some wind and my body just didn’t feel like it was up for an 8 mile hike, and the RV was making some weird noises, so I didn’t want to risk a bumpy fire service road to get closer. So I decided today was a recovery day – and there was much rejoicing.
I made grilled cheese for lunch, a nice change from Cliff Bars and trail mix. I had purchased roasted garlic and cheese bread, and filled that with ham, Munster and Colby jack cheese. It did NOT disappoint!

Otherwise I did a little job-search related work and just laid down and read a book for much of the afternoon. The evening included a dinner date with Leah, which was absolutely wonderful. Now I am trying to rearrange the webpage again to allow more interaction. I think I have made progress in understanding what it takes to allow comments and keep things visible for people. Fingers crossed.
Tomorrow I drive down to Moab and start my exploration of Arches, and I am soooo excited for that. Check back for a more robust update for the next week or so as I hit Arches and Bryce, which are definitely going to be highlights, even without doing the iconic routes like Angel’s Landing!
